Peru remains one of the most underrated holiday destinations. Get away from the sprawl of Lima and most visitors begin to relax. Arequipa, Trujillo and Cusco are all smaller, more laid-back places to stay and party.

Arequipa is flanked by the magnificent volcanoes of El Misti and El Chachani and is only a few hours from the remarkable Colca Canyon while Cusco is the starting point for the Inca Trail to Macchu Picchu. Iquitos in the Amazon lies outside the main road network, and is only accessible by plane or boat. People are generally very friendly, and the tourist infrastructure is well-developed.
