The small country of Guyana is overlooked by most visitors to South America. It consists of a few coastal cities and towns backed the dense Amazon Jungle. The 250-metre Kaieteur Falls – one of the world's most powerful - is a popular attraction, and can be reached by plane or after a 5-day trek.

The border with Venezuela is closed. However, hikers on Mount Roraima, accessed only through Venezuela, can reach a tripoint marker at the top where Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana meet. Naturally, there is no border post. It is easy to travel by road from Guyana to the savannahs of northern Brazil outside of the rainy season.
