The largest country in South America is synonymous with the Amazon rainforest. And no one can do any more than explore a mere fraction of it. Manaus is the largest city on the river and easy to fly into. Rio de Janeiro is a huge draw, along with the Copacabana and the Christ The Redeemer statue. Safety in Rio requires care and knowledge.

Salvador and Fortaleza in the northeast offer a more laid-back atmosphere with (many say) better beaches and nightlife. The IguaƧu Falls on the border with Argentina and Paraguay are one of the world's biggest. The Pantanal, near the Bolivian border, is famed for the diversity of its wildlife.
