American Samoa

American Samoa has a culture distinctive to that of its neighbour to the west, the independent country of Samoa, formerly named Western Samoa. American Samoa is heavily influenced by American culture, and there is significant emigration to the United States, while Samoa has closer ties to New Zealand. It consists of several small hilly islands. Ofu beach is famously beautiful.

Most of the population lives on Tutuila, part of which is a national park in which lies some fantastic hiking. There are a handful of World War II relics to view. Pago Pago, at the foot of the park, is the capital.
