US Virgin Islands

The US Virgin Islands are west of the neighbouring British Virgin Islands. They have been controlled by several European powers at different times in their history. They have some excellent beaches such as Trunk Bay and Magens Bay. The terrain is hilly. The port of Christianstad has several preserved structures from the two centuries of Danish rule.

Nearby Buck Island Reef National Monument is a small island with excellent hiking trails and snorkelling opportunities. Most visitors arrive off cruise ships to the capital, Charlotte Amalie, on the island of St Thomas. English is widely spoken, along with Spanish and Creole.
