Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico is a self-governing commonwealth of the United States. Puerto Ricans qualify to be US citizens but not to vote in federal elections. Its unusual political status is the source of much debate. Naturally, there are excellent flight connections between the two countries. El Yunque is a spectacular rainforest just outside the capital, San Juan. Other things to do include horseriding, golf and gambling in the huge casinos.

There are excellent beaches and watersport opportunities. There are a number of preserved old coffee plantations in the highlands. English and Spanish are the official languages, though only a small minority speak English.
