Costa Rica

Costa Rica is the most popular destination in Central America due to its incredible diversity of landscapes and wildlife, and also its safety and political stability. It has a mountainous central spine with many volcanoes, many beautiful and remote beaches on the Pacific coast, and a remarkable rainforest in the south, and an isolated and underpopulated Caribbean coast.

A quarter of the country is designated protected areas and you can see sloths, monkeys, cats, vultures, toucans, hummingbirds and much much more. Outdoor activities are hugely popular. The highest mountain is the at 3819 metre (12530 ft) Cerro Chirripo. Arenal volcano in the north has erupted many times in the past 40 years and is an important tourist destination.
