Clipperton Island

Clipperton Island is an atoll in the Pacific a few hundred kilometres southwest of Mexico. It is uninhabited, and an overseas possession of France under the direct authority of the Minister of Overseas France. A mining colony was established there in the early 20th Century to mine its guano deposits, but when resupply ships stopped arriving during the Mexican Revolution, disease, desperation and murder meant only 11 of the 100 or colonists survived.

There are thousands of crabs on the island, and healthy populations of Brown Booby and Masked Booby birds. The waters around the island are excellent fishing grounds.
