Wales

It was the best of places, it was the worst of places – and still is, depending on who goes there. It combines rugged mountain beauty with ugly slag heaps, coal pits and drab urban areas. It is railway enthusiast's dream with heritage railway attractions and also the Snowdon Mountain Railway – the only public rack and pinion railway in the UK. Mountains make travel through the tiny country take longer than expected.

Wales has a rich history and numerous castles such as Harlech Castle, Conwy Castle and Penrych Castle. The highly-distinctive Welsh language is spoken in many rural parts, and dual language signs are a curiosity to most visitor.
