Switzerland is famous for its watches, banks, mountains, glaciers and railways. Most of the population live in cities amid rolling hills in the north. The high alpine peaks and narrow valleys are in the south. Jungfraujoch, near Interlaken, has the highest railway station in Europe, overlooking the majestic Aletsch glacier. It is near the legendary wall of the Eiger, a climbing destination par excellence.

The car-free Zermatt is further south, at the foot of the majestic Matterhorn. The Klein Matterhorn is accessible here by the highest cable car in Europe. The Furkapass, Grimsel, and Gotthard passes are thrilling mountain road passes near Andermatt, and are magnets for cyclists and bikers on a fine day.
