A small, landlocked country, its full name is the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, to differentiate it from the neighbouring Greek region. One of the most underrated destinations in Europe, it has huge mountains and beautiful churches, monasteries and mosques. Nowhere has these in such a beautiful setting as Ohrid, close to the border with Albania.

Nearby Bitola has great nightlife and Krusevo has preserved its town centre well and is the highest city in the Balkans. The capital, Skopje is only 20km from the Kosovo border and you can easily drive across the whole of Macedonia in three hours.
