Gibraltar is synonymous with the famous Rock of Gibraltar. There is a cable car to the top, or the fitter can walk the extraordinary Mediterranean Steps up. They are beautifully built and newly rstored. On your visit you ought to see a few Barbary Macaques. There are plenty of tunnels within the Rock itself which are part of a former defence system.

Unusually, the border with Spain effectively closes each time a plane lands or takes off from the only airport, as the only road into the territory crosses the runway. Apart from the Rock, Gibraltar consists of only a small, unremarkable town.
