Though better known for sending tourists abroad than for receiving them, Germany still has much to offer visitors. Berlin is less touristy than the other big European capitals and has a truly fascinating recent history. It rarely fails to delight visitors.

Munich's Oktoberfest is the friendly face of binge drinking and has seen copycats spring up all over the world. The Black Forest and the German Alps, along with the famous Castle Neuschwanstein are all in the south, while the amazing Rhine Valley cuts through the western industrial heartland. Cologne and its famous cathedral, once the world's tallest structure, lies on the Rhine.
