Czech Republic

The Czech Republic has interesting, ancient cities and towns interspersed throughout pretty, hilly countryside. The outstandingly beautiful Prague is one of the most visited cities in Europe but many other towns such as Olomouc, Kutna Hora and Pilsen (famous for its beer) are smaller and less crowded alternatives for visitors.

The country's location right at the heart of Europe makes it a backpacker's favourite, within easy reach of Vienna, Bratislava, Munich, Berlin and Krakow. The Bohemian Paradise is a popular hiking and biking destination in the north, and the famous Karlstejn Castle and the holy cave monastery just to the west of Prague are well worth a visit.
