Asia's largest Catholic country, The Philippines consists of over 7000 islands. The capital, Manila, is a megacity of 20 million people. Further north, Angeles City is famous for its nightlife, its American military base, and cheap flights from neighbouring countries. The southern island of Mindanao is considered to be at risk of terrorism but the main island of Luzon is relatively safe.

With this much coastline, the Philippines naturally has fantastic beaches, diving and watersports opportunities. The rice terraces of Banaue north of Manila are a UNESCO World Heritage site. Vigan is an unusual city, being a planned European colonial town.
