Tourism in Jordan is dominated by the magnificent Petra. It was rediscovered by a Swiss explorer in 1812 almost twelve hundred years after being destroyed in an earthquake. One picture is enough to make most people resolve to visit it. But Jordan also has the Dead Sea – the lowest point on earth, a sea so salty you can float easily in it. Take a book to read during your swim.

Wadi Rum is a spectacular scenic valley to the south of Petra, a place Lawrence of Arabia spent much time in. Also worth a look are the Desert Castles in the Eastern Desert.
