French Southern and Antarctic Lands

The French Southern and Antarctic Lands include a collection of islands in the Southern Indian Ocean, which are recognised internationally and a portion of the Antarctic continent, which isn't. The Scattered Islands are 4 tiny islands near Madagascar which both the government there and the Comoros government dispute.

The Kerguelen Islands are an archipelago halfway between South Africa and Antarctica. They lie just southeast of the steep Crozet Islands, while Ile Saint Paul and Ile Amsterdam are further east again. There are a handful of research stations on these islands but no permanent populations. There are no airports and no harbours.
