Ghana gained independence from Britain in 1957 and has enjoyed over 20 years of political stability, making it a highly attractive destination for visitors to this part of Africa. In 2011 it was the world's fastest growing economy. English is the country's official language. The Kakum National Park, near the capital, Accra, has a very popular canopy walkway from which you can view monkeys and elephants.
